Using the Bed Rail
The Stander Bed Rail Advantage Traveler is designed to provide a sturdy handhold for assistance when getting into or out of bed. It must be properly assembled, positioned beneath the mattress, and secured to the bed frame with the included safety strap before use.
- Assemble the Bed Rail Advantage Traveler according to Stander’s supplied assembly instructions before using it.
- Position the support beneath the mattress with the padded handle located at the desired transfer point along the side of the bed.
- Secure the bed rail to the bed frame using the included safety strap.
- Make sure the rail is firmly positioned against the mattress with no unsafe gap between the rail and mattress.
- Use the padded handle for balance and support when transferring into or out of bed.
Choosing a Compatible Bed and Mattress
The Bed Rail Advantage Traveler is designed for traditional non-adjustable beds with box springs, platforms, or slats. Stander’s current product page states that it can be used with mattress sizes from Twin through California King and mattress heights from 6 to 16 inches.
- Use only with a traditional non-adjustable bed.
- Do not use the Bed Rail Advantage Traveler with an adjustable base bed.
- Use only with a mattress that meets Stander’s current compatibility requirements.
- Do not use the bed rail with an extra-soft mattress unless the installation meets Stander’s requirements for use with the Bed Rail Safety Guard.
Checking Mattress Firmness
Stander warns that soft mattresses can increase the risk of entrapment between the mattress and bed rail. The manufacturer provides a mattress-compression test to help determine whether additional protection is required.
- Make a fist and press down on the edge of the mattress using approximately 12 lbs. of force.
- Observe how far the mattress compresses under that pressure.
- If approximately 12 lbs. of pressure compresses the mattress by about 2 inches, Stander instructs users not to use the bed rail without the Bed Rail Safety Guard.
Securing the Safety Strap
The included safety strap is an essential part of the installation and secures the Bed Rail Advantage Traveler to the bed frame. The rail should not be used as a transfer aid unless the safety strap is correctly installed and the rail is firmly positioned.
- Attach the safety strap around the bed frame according to Stander’s installation instructions.
- Make sure the strap remains secure and properly tensioned.
- Recheck the rail and safety strap whenever the mattress, bed, or rail is moved.
- Do not rely on the weight of the mattress alone to keep the bed rail in place.
Folding for Travel or Storage
The Bed Rail Advantage Traveler folds in half to approximately 21 by 17 inches for travel or storage. The rail weighs 8 lbs. and can be moved between compatible beds, but it must be completely reinstalled and secured before each use.
Using the Organizer Pouch
The included organizer pouch provides convenient bedside storage for small personal items such as a phone, tablet, glasses, remote control, or medications.
