How the ASO® with Plastic Stays Supports the Ankle

The Med Spec ASO® with Plastic Stays combines multiple layers of ankle stabilization. The lace-up boot provides a close-fitting foundation, figure-8 straps help stabilize the subtalar and talocrural joints, and removable plastic stays add medial and lateral support when additional structure is needed.

The nylon stabilizing straps wrap around the ankle in a complete figure-eight pattern. This configuration helps control inversion and eversion while providing support around both the upper ankle and subtalar joint.

Med Spec angles the straps to contour above the ankle bones, improving comfort while helping the brace remain properly positioned during movement.

Additional Support from Removable Plastic Stays

Plastic stays are positioned along the medial and lateral sides of the ankle to enhance proprioceptive support. Because the stays are removable, the brace can be adapted when a different level of support is appropriate.

The ASO with Plastic Stays uses a low-profile construction designed to fit inside footwear. Med Spec also moved the traditional seam away from the bottom of the foot and positioned it along the rear of the boot to reduce pressure beneath the sole.

Before washing, secure all closure straps. Med Spec allows the brace to be washed by hand or in a washing machine on a gentle cycle using warm water and mild detergent.
