Using the BedCane
The Stander BedCane is designed to provide balance and support when getting into or out of bed. It should be fully assembled, positioned beneath the mattress, and secured to the bed frame with the included safety strap before use.
- Assemble the BedCane according to Stander’s supplied instructions before using it.
- Position the 23-by-19-inch wooden base beneath the mattress so the padded handle is located at the desired transfer point.
- On a traditional box-spring bed, position the base between the mattress and box spring; on a compatible slatted bed, the base rests above the slats and beneath the mattress.
- Secure the BedCane to the bed frame using the included safety strap.
- Check that the handle and base remain firmly positioned before placing weight on the rail.
- Use the padded handle for balance and support when sitting up, standing, or transferring into or out of bed.
Choosing a Compatible Bed and Mattress
The BedCane is intended for traditional non-adjustable beds with box springs, platforms, or slats. Stander states that it can be used with mattress sizes from Twin through California King when the mattress measures between 6 and 14 inches thick.
- Use with traditional non-adjustable beds only.
- Do not use the BedCane with an adjustable base bed.
- Do not use the BedCane with an extra-soft mattress.
- Use only with mattresses measuring between 6 and 14 inches thick.
- Confirm that the base board can lie flat and securely beneath the mattress before use.
Securing the Safety Strap
The included safety strap is an important part of the BedCane installation and attaches around the bed frame to keep the rail securely positioned. Do not rely on the weight of the mattress alone to hold the BedCane in place.
- Attach the safety strap around a secure portion of the bed frame according to Stander’s installation instructions.
- Make sure the strap remains firmly secured before each use.
- Recheck the strap and rail whenever the bed, mattress, or BedCane has been moved.
- Do not use the BedCane if the strap cannot be securely attached to the bed frame.
Using the Organizer Pouch
The included organizer pouch provides convenient storage for small bedside items such as a phone, tablet, glasses, remote control, or medications. Keep stored items positioned so they do not interfere with the handle or safe use of the BedCane.
