Using the Chattanooga ColPac

The Chattanooga ColPac is designed exclusively for cold therapy. Chill the pack thoroughly before use, then apply it to the treatment area with a protective towel between the ColPac and the skin.

1. Place the ColPac flat in a freezer or compatible ColPac chilling unit until it is thoroughly chilled.
2. Remove the chilled ColPac from the freezer or chilling unit.
3. Wrap the ColPac in a hand towel before applying it to the body.
4. Position the wrapped pack over the area being treated.
5. Monitor the skin and treatment area frequently throughout use.
6. Remove the pack within 30 minutes or sooner if it becomes uncomfortable.

A warm, damp towel may be used as the protective layer to reduce the initial shock of the cold. Never place the chilled ColPac directly against bare skin.

Choosing a ColPac Size

The standard blue-vinyl ColPac is offered in seven sizes and shapes so you can select coverage appropriate for the area being treated.

• The 3″ × 11″ pack works well for narrow areas such as the foot, ankle, forearm, or shin.
• The quarter-size pack provides compact coverage for areas such as the wrist, elbow, ankle, or foot.
• The half-size pack provides versatile coverage for smaller joints and muscle groups.
• The standard-size pack provides broad, general-purpose coverage.
• The oversize pack is designed for larger areas such as the back, thigh, quadriceps, or hamstring.
• The neck-contour pack is shaped to drape around the neck, shoulders, or lower back.
• The eye pack is contoured for cold therapy around the eyes and facial area.

Cold Therapy Only

The Chattanooga ColPac must only be used for cold therapy. Do not heat it in a microwave, hot water, conventional oven, or any other heating device. It is not designed to function as a hot pack.

Important Safety Information

• Always place a towel between the chilled ColPac and the skin.
• Do not apply the ColPac directly to bare skin.
• Do not use the ColPac over open wounds.
• Do not use cold therapy on areas with poor circulation or reduced sensation without medical guidance.
• Use additional caution on thin skin and bony areas such as the shoulders, elbows, and knees.
• Frequently inspect the skin for excessive redness, blanching, irritation, numbness, or other adverse reactions.
• Use special care when applying cold therapy to infants, older adults, or anyone who may have difficulty sensing or communicating discomfort.
• Do not sit, lie, or sleep on the ColPac.
• Do not use the ColPac for longer than 30 minutes during one treatment session.
• Stop treatment immediately if the cold becomes painful or causes unusual skin changes.
• Follow the instructions of your physician or physical therapist after surgery or a significant injury.

Cleaning and Care

• Clean the vinyl exterior with soap and water.
• Dry the ColPac before returning it to storage.
• Store the pack flat when possible and avoid folding it.
• Keep the pack away from sharp objects that could puncture or tear the vinyl.
• Inspect the exterior before every use.
• Replace the ColPac if the vinyl covering is damaged beyond repair or if the pack becomes firm, hard, or no longer molds comfortably around the treatment area.

The Chattanooga ColPac includes a one-year manufacturer warranty. Retain your proof of purchase and follow Chattanooga’s warranty procedures when requesting service or replacement.
