Using the Folding Commode
The NOVA Folding Commode can be configured for two primary uses: as a standalone bedside commode with the included bucket or positioned over an existing toilet as a raised toilet seat with arms. Choose the appropriate setup before use and make sure the frame, seat, backrest, and adjustable legs are fully secured.
Using It as a Standalone Bedside Commode
For standalone use, NOVA instructs users to remove the splash guard and use the included bucket beneath the commode seat.
- Make sure the commode is completely unfolded and positioned on a level surface.
- Confirm that all four legs are adjusted to the same height and that the push buttons are fully engaged.
- Remove the splash guard for standalone use.
- Place the included bucket beneath the commode seat.
- Check that the seat, backrest, legs, and bucket are properly positioned before use.
Using It Over a Toilet
The Folding Commode can also be positioned over an existing toilet to function as a raised toilet seat with arms. NOVA instructs users to remove the bucket and bucket lid and position the splash guard beneath the commode seat before placing the frame over the toilet.
- Remove the bucket and bucket lid.
- Place the splash guard beneath the commode seat.
- Position the commode securely over the toilet.
- Make sure all four legs remain at equal height settings and stand securely on a level floor.
- Confirm that the seat and frame are stable before use.
Adjusting the Height
The commode height is adjusted using the push button on each leg. Press the button and slide the leg up or down to the desired setting, making sure the push button fully engages in the selected adjustment hole.
- Adjust all four legs to the same height setting.
- Make sure each push button is fully engaged before use.
- Place the commode on a level surface after adjustment.
- Check the frame for stability before sitting down.
Folding and Setting Up the Commode
NOVA designed the 8700 to fold and unfold without tools. When setting up the commode, swing the legs forward, raise the bucket platform, engage the push buttons on both sides, and install the backrest according to the manufacturer’s assembly instructions.
- Make sure the bucket-platform push buttons are fully engaged on both sides.
- Make sure the backrest push buttons are completely locked into the mounting holes.
- Check the connections by pulling on the appropriate frame components as directed in NOVA’s user guide.
- Make sure the seat is completely attached and secure before use.
Important Safety Information
- Do not exceed the 300 lb. maximum weight capacity.
- Read and follow NOVA’s complete assembly and use instructions before using the commode.
- All four legs must be adjusted to the same height so the seat remains level.
- Make sure the legs and backrest are secure and that the brass push buttons are completely locked into their adjustment holes before use.
- Make sure the seat is properly installed and secure before each use.
- Use the commode only on a level surface.
- Do not stand on the commode seat.
- Check the push buttons and seat regularly to make sure the commode remains secure and stable.
- This product is not designed for use in a bath or shower.
Cleaning and Care
NOVA instructs users to clean the Folding Commode with mild detergent and warm water. Regularly check the brass push buttons to make sure they remain securely locked into the legs and confirm that the seat is stable before use.
Warranty
NOVA provides a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the metal frame and a one-year limited warranty on non-metal/metal parts, including rubber tips and plastic or metal hardware. The warranty applies to the original purchaser and covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use; NOVA excludes problems caused by negligence, misuse, failure to follow product instructions, normal wear and tear, and unauthorized modifications.
