Choosing a Grab Bar Size

NOVA offers the Chrome Wall Grab Bar in five lengths, allowing you to choose a size that works with the intended installation location. The chrome models share the same basic construction and 250-pound weight capacity, with the item number changing according to length.

Using the Grab Bar

The NOVA Chrome Wall Grab Bar is designed to provide a secure handhold for added stability. NOVA specifically instructs users to grasp the bar when entering or exiting a bathtub or shower and to use it for stabilization when needed.

Choosing an Installation Position

NOVA states that its Wall Grab Bars can be installed horizontally or vertically. Before installation, determine where support is needed and confirm that the wall and mounting location are appropriate for secure installation.

Installing the Grab Bar

NOVA recommends consulting with a qualified professional before installation. The manufacturer’s instructions call for an electric drill, pencil, drill bits, Phillips screwdriver, and stud finder.

1. Locate the stud behind the existing shower wall to determine where the grab bar can be safely installed, then clean the portion of the wall that will be used for mounting.
2. Position the mounting flanges and use a pencil to mark the locations where the mounting holes need to be drilled.
3. Use a 1/4-inch drill bit to drill pilot holes through the shower wall and into the wood or metal stud.
4. If the wall is tiled, NOVA instructs installers to drill through the tile only with a 5/16-inch drill bit and then switch to a 1/4-inch drill bit to complete the hole.
5. Place the supplied rubber seals and mounting flanges against the wall and align them with the drilled holes.
6. Insert the supplied mounting screws and tighten them securely.
7. For tiled walls, NOVA instructs installers to insert the supplied plastic anchors into the holes before mounting.
