Using the Heavy Duty Transfer Bench

The NOVA Heavy Duty Bariatric Transfer Bench is designed to help the user enter and exit a bathtub or shower while remaining seated. The extended bench is positioned with the suction-tip legs inside the bathing area and the standard-tip legs outside, allowing the user to sit on the outer edge and carefully move across the seat toward the inside of the tub or shower.

Positioning the Transfer Bench

The two adjustable legs with suction tips are designed to go inside the bathtub, while the other two adjustable legs remain outside the bathing area. NOVA notes that the inside and outside leg heights may need to differ when there is a height difference between the bathtub floor and the bathroom floor.

1. Place the suction-tip legs inside the bathtub or shower.
2. Position the standard-tip legs securely on the bathroom floor outside the bathing area.
3. Adjust the leg heights as necessary to accommodate differences between the tub or shower floor and the bathroom floor.
4. Make sure every leg adjustment is securely locked.
5. Check that the completed transfer bench is stable and does not wobble before use.

Adjusting the Leg Height

The adjustable legs use height-adjustment clips. To change the height, remove the clip, slide the leg to the desired position, align the holes in the leg and bench frame, and fully insert the center pin of the adjustment clip through the aligned holes.

Installing the Backrest

The backrest can be attached to either side of the bench depending on the direction the user needs to face. Slide the backrest into the appropriate backrest slots and make sure the push buttons fully engage before using the bench.

Using the Transfer Bench

1. Make sure the transfer bench is properly positioned with the suction-tip legs inside the bathtub and that the bench is stable and does not wobble.
2. Slowly sit on the outside edge of the transfer bench.
3. Carefully move across the bench toward the inside of the bathtub or shower.
4. Use the side handle for stabilization as needed while moving across the seat.
5. Remain seated during the transfer rather than attempting to stand on the bench.

Important Safety Information

• Do not exceed the 500 lb. maximum weight capacity.
• Make sure all leg push buttons and adjustment components are completely engaged before using the transfer bench.
• NOVA’s user guide states that all legs must be adjusted to the same height for level seating, while also noting that leg heights may vary when compensating for a height difference between the bathtub and bathroom floor; in either installation, the completed bench must be level and stable before use.
• Use extreme caution on wet bathtub and floor surfaces.
• Do not stand on the transfer bench.
• Check the bench frequently for cracks, damage, looseness, or instability.
• Do not use the transfer bench if it is damaged.
• Make sure the suction-tip legs are positioned inside the bathtub as directed by NOVA.
• Follow all manufacturer assembly and use instructions before using the transfer bench.

Cleaning and Care

NOVA instructs users to clean the Heavy Duty Transfer Bench with mild detergent and warm water and then dry it with a soft cloth to help avoid moisture buildup. Regularly check all legs to make sure they remain securely locked.

Warranty

NOVA provides a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the metal frame and a one-year limited warranty on non-metal/metal parts, including rubber tips and plastic or metal hardware. The warranty applies to the original purchaser and covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use; it does not cover user negligence, misuse, failure to follow product instructions, normal wear and tear, negligent abuse, or unauthorized modifications.
