Using the Toilet Safety Rails
The NOVA Toilet Safety Rails are designed to provide additional stability when sitting down on or standing up from the toilet. NOVA specifies that the rails are an assistance device and instructs users not to place their entire body weight on them.
Installing the Toilet Safety Rails
The Toilet Safety Rails attach directly to the toilet using a mounting bracket positioned beneath the existing toilet seat. Installation requires temporarily removing the toilet seat and lid so the bracket can be secured using the toilet’s seat mounting points.
- Remove the existing toilet seat and lid by unscrewing the fasteners at the rear of the seat.
- Position the toilet safety frame bracket between the toilet opening and tank with the rounded portion of the bracket closest to the tank.
- Align the holes in the bracket with the toilet seat mounting holes.
- Replace the toilet seat and lid and reinstall the screws through the bracket and toilet.
- Attach an adjustment leg to each arm frame by depressing the brass pin and sliding the leg onto the frame until the pin engages.
- Remove the star knobs and insert the side frames into the mounting bracket.
- Adjust the rails to the desired width and reinstall the star knobs to secure the side frames.
- Turn the small L-shaped tubes toward the toilet until the brass pins engage in the arms.
Adjusting the Height and Width
The width between the arms adjusts from 21 to 24 inches, and the arm height adjusts from 26.5 to 30.5 inches from the floor. NOVA instructs users to set both adjustment legs to equal heights so the armrests remain parallel to the floor.
- Adjust the rail width by positioning the side frames within the mounting bracket.
- Reinsert and tighten the star knobs to lock the side frames at the desired width.
- To adjust the height, depress the push button on each adjustment leg and slide the leg up or down.
- Make sure each push button fully engages at the selected position.
- Set both legs to equal heights and confirm that the armrests are parallel to the floor.
Getting On and Off the Toilet
Use the Toilet Safety Rails for additional stability when lowering onto or rising from the toilet. NOVA specifically states that the rails are intended for assistance only and that the user should not apply their entire body weight to the product.
