Using the Mobility Rail
The Stander Wonder Mobility Rail is designed to provide support during transfers into and out of bed. The padded main handle provides a handhold at the bedside, while the swing-out mobility arm pivots 180 degrees to provide continued support as you move away from the bed.
- Assemble and install the Mobility Rail according to Stander’s supplied instructions before use.
- Position the rail on a compatible traditional bed and secure it to the bed frame with the included safety strap.
- Make sure the rail is firmly positioned and the safety strap is secure before placing weight on the handle.
- Use the padded main handle for balance and support while sitting up and beginning your transfer out of bed.
- Pivot the swing-out mobility arm as needed to provide an additional handhold while transferring away from the bed.
- Check that the rail remains properly installed before each use.
Using the Swing-Out Mobility Arm
The Mobility Rail’s distinguishing feature is a 15-inch-wide mobility arm that pivots 180 degrees. This allows the handhold to extend away from the bedside so support can continue through more of the standing and transfer process.
- Pivot the mobility arm into the desired position before relying on it for support.
- Use the swing-out arm as an additional handhold while transferring away from the bed.
- Keep the surrounding area clear so the arm can pivot without striking furniture or other objects.
- Make sure the complete rail remains securely attached to the bed frame while using the mobility arm.
Choosing a Compatible Bed and Mattress
The Wonder Mobility Rail is designed for traditional non-adjustable beds with box springs, platforms, or slats. Stander states that it can be used with mattress sizes from Twin through California King when the mattress measures between 10 and 15 inches thick.
- Use with traditional non-adjustable beds only.
- Do not use the Mobility Rail with an adjustable base bed.
- Do not use the Mobility Rail with an extra-soft mattress.
- Use only with mattresses measuring between 10 and 15 inches thick.
- Confirm that the rail can be properly positioned and securely attached to the bed frame before use.
Securing the Safety Strap
The included safety strap attaches around the bed frame and is an important part of the Mobility Rail installation. The rail should be securely strapped to the frame before it is used for transfer support.
- Attach the safety strap around the bed frame according to Stander’s installation instructions.
- Make sure the strap remains secure and properly tensioned.
- Do not rely on the weight of the mattress alone to secure the Mobility Rail.
- Recheck the safety strap whenever the bed, mattress, or Mobility Rail has been moved.
Checking Mattress Firmness
Stander warns that using a bed rail with a soft mattress creates a greater risk of entrapment between the mattress and rail. The manufacturer provides a mattress-compression test to help determine whether additional protection is required.
- Make a fist and apply approximately 12 lbs. of pressure to the edge of the mattress.
- Observe how far the mattress compresses under that pressure.
- If approximately 12 lbs. of pressure compresses the mattress by about 2 inches, Stander instructs users not to use the bed rail without the Bed Rail Safety Guard.
Using the Organizer Pouch
The included organizer pouch provides bedside storage for frequently used personal items such as a phone, tablet, glasses, remote control, or medications. Keep stored items positioned so they do not interfere with the padded handle or swing-out mobility arm.
Important Safety Information
- The maximum user weight capacity is 300 lbs.
- Read and follow Stander’s complete user guide, assembly instructions, and safety warnings before installing or using the Mobility Rail.
- Do not use the Mobility Rail with an adjustable base bed.
- Do not use the Mobility Rail with an extra-soft mattress.
- Use only with mattresses that meet Stander’s specified 10-to-15-inch thickness range.
- Always secure the Mobility Rail to the bed frame with the included safety strap.
- Soft mattresses increase the risk of entrapment between the mattress and bed rail, which can result in serious injury or death.
- If the mattress compresses approximately 2 inches when about 12 lbs. of pressure is applied, Stander instructs users not to use the product without the Bed Rail Safety Guard.
- Check the installation regularly to make sure the rail remains securely positioned and unsafe gaps have not developed between the mattress and rail.
Cleaning and Care
Stander’s current Mobility Rail product page does not provide specific cleaning instructions. Inspect the steel rail, padded handle, swing-out arm, safety strap, and attachment points regularly for looseness, wear, or damage, and follow the care instructions supplied with the product.
