Using the Wonder Pole Plus
The Stander Wonder Pole Plus is designed to provide balance and moderate weight support while sitting, standing, or transferring. It is not intended to support the user’s full body weight, and the user must be able to securely grasp the handle while using the pole.
Choosing an Installation Location
The Wonder Pole Plus can be installed wherever additional standing or transfer support is needed and there is a suitable flat floor and flat ceiling between 7 and 10 feet high. Common locations include beside a bed or toilet, near a couch or chair, in the kitchen, and near the top or bottom of stairs.
- Install the pole only between a flat floor and a flat ceiling.
- Do not install the pole on a loose rug or another surface that could allow the base to slide or slip.
- Do not install the pole on an angled, vaulted, or suspended ceiling.
- Do not install the pole inside a bathtub or shower or on a floor that is frequently wet.
- Position the pole far enough from beds, walls, furniture, and other objects to reduce the risk of entrapment.
Installing the Wonder Pole Plus
The Wonder Pole Plus uses tension between the floor and ceiling for installation and does not require drilling for standard use. During assembly, adjust the pole for the measured ceiling height, position it perpendicular to the floor and ceiling, and tighten the tension mechanism until the pole is securely installed with absolutely no sliding between the floor and ceiling.
- Determine the height between the floor and ceiling and configure the pole for the appropriate height according to Stander’s assembly instructions.
- Place the base at the desired location and position the pole perpendicular to the floor and ceiling.
- Make sure the protective pads fully engage the floor and ceiling with evenly distributed force.
- Tighten the tension mechanism as directed until the pole is secure and does not slide.
- Check the completed installation for movement before using the grab bar for support.
- If additional security is desired, Stander includes screws for optional hard mounting; ceiling screws must engage the ceiling joists as directed in the user guide.
Adjusting the Rotating Grab Bar
The double ladder-style grab bar rotates around the pole and locks at multiple positions in 45-degree increments. This allows the handles to be positioned for different activities, such as standing from a chair, getting out of bed, transferring from a wheelchair, or getting up from the toilet.
- Pull the spring-loaded pin to release the rotating handle.
- Rotate the handle to the desired position.
- Release the spring-loaded pin.
- Continue rotating the handle until the pin locks securely into position.
- Always verify that the handle is completely locked before using it for support.
Using the Wonder Pole Plus in the Bathroom
The Wonder Pole Plus can be installed in a suitable bathroom location to provide support when getting on or off the toilet, but it must not be installed inside a bathtub or shower or on a floor that is frequently wet. For support specifically while bathing, Stander offers a separate Wonder Bathtub Pole designed for that application.
